Did a little bit of work on one of my friend Daniil\u2019s ARRI ST Super 16 conversions, and then sat and admired this fascinating Newman &amp; Sinclair camera that we took in a year or so ago. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/cinemagear.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/newman-sinclair-2-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Newman and Sinclair Autokine 35mm motion picture film camera\" class=\"wp-image-2975\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cinemagear.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/newman-sinclair-2-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cinemagear.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/newman-sinclair-2-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cinemagear.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/newman-sinclair-2-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cinemagear.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/newman-sinclair-2-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cinemagear.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/newman-sinclair-2.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This camera came from the collection of five-time Emmy Award winning photojournalist, author, and owner of video rental firm Videosmith, Steven Trent Smith. I know very little about this camera and haven\u2019t done any restoration work on it yet, but it is a running camera, dirty, and in need of cleanup and lubrication. From the extremely basic research I have done so far, I am not certain what model this camera is, but I think it is an Autokine, possibly a Model E?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/cinemagear.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/newman-sinclair-3-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Newman and Sinclair Autokine 35mm motion picture film camera\" class=\"wp-image-2976\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cinemagear.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/newman-sinclair-3-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cinemagear.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/newman-sinclair-3-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cinemagear.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/newman-sinclair-3-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cinemagear.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/newman-sinclair-3-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cinemagear.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/newman-sinclair-3.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> Having built several prototype cameras from the ground up out of aluminum plates, this camera looks very much like something that was completely handmade, one at a time. This particular Newman &amp; Sinclair is a clockwork camera with two main springs and two separate winding handles. It features a fascinating, three part viewfinding system. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/cinemagear.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/newman-sinclair-4-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Newman and Sinclair Autokine 35mm motion picture film camera\" class=\"wp-image-2977\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cinemagear.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/newman-sinclair-4-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cinemagear.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/newman-sinclair-4-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cinemagear.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/newman-sinclair-4-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cinemagear.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/newman-sinclair-4-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cinemagear.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/newman-sinclair-4.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One part being a through-the-film viewfinder on the door that also allows you to rack the main lens over to a ground glass on the door. It also has a Newton finder with interchangeable field lenses.
