While I was reassembling and timing the Vinten Model H, I thought it would be interesting to show the unique way the variable shutter system works on this camera. It’s complicated, but fascinating. The shutter shaft has a simple flange with a dowel pin hole that a corresponding pin on the back of the shutter aligns with. A fine threaded hex nut locks the shutter onto the shutter shaft. The interesting part is, in order to adjust the shutter angle, you have to remove the turret and the turret mounting plate, unscrew the hex nut, remove the shutter from the camera, set the shutter angle using a brass pin that’s mounted in the movable shutter blade so the pin engages in one of the holes drilled in the fixed shutter blade, and then reassemble everything in reverse order. It\u2019s also interesting to note the similarity in the way the 2709 turret mounts to the camera as compared to how this Vinten turret mounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
