Among the crate of tripods we acquired last month, we were delighted to discover this original Eclair Camerette aluminum tripod and friction head. This was exciting because we could finally pair one of the Camerettes from our collection with its intended tripod. The Eclair Camerette and this unique tripod were introduced to the US market in 1949. Like the Eclair camera, this tripod has a number of interesting features, like a clamp-on ball-leveling cast aluminum pan tilt head, and telescoping aluminum legs. Eclair was founded in Paris in 1907 by Charles Jourjon and Ambroise Parnaland. The company began in the film production business and branched out into a film processing facility and equipment manufacturer over time. Eclair continues to operate today as a post-production and film preservation company.
