Please join me as I take a walk down memory lane and show you a little bit of what went into the restoration of the Dykstraflex motion control camera system. For the uninitiated among you, this was the groundbreaking motion control camera system that brought to life the most exciting special visual effects that first appeared in “Star War: Episode IV – A New Hope”. It went on to work on many of ILM’s most iconic films. With my thanks to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for giving me the opportunity to work on this iconic piece of film history, and to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures for inviting all of us involved in this project to show their work to the world. Stay tuned tomorrow for part two of this series.
