A collection of motors from various makers for 35mm and 16mm motion picture film cameras.

Reviewing Our Motor Inventory

I’ve had a couple of questions recently about vintage motors for various cameras, and before I could answer them, I had to go through the giant pile of motors I’ve collected over the years. I had to see which ones actually work, which ones are repairable, and which ones are so damaged they just need to be recycled. As I think I’ve said numerous times, I hate throwing anything away, and this collection of motors demonstrates this very well. Not to worry though, I have been separating all of the vintage electrical connectors, knobs, badges, and other unobtainable parts from the unrepairable motors before they head to the recycle pile. My process has been straightforward: pull the motors and cables out of the case, test the motors by hand, then see if the motor will power up. There have been a couple of cases where all the motor would do was belch smoke, so those were clearly not fixable. Alas. There have also been some motors where I don’t have all of the required cables, nor the parts to make them. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with those motors yet. Otherwise, all of the motors that are working and have the correct cables will be put back into inventory and paired with an appropriate camera at some point. Until next week.
