Originally introduced in 1946, the Mitchell 16 professional motion picture camera incorporated the features and design that had made Mitchell’s 35mm cameras so successful. The Mitchell 16 was advertised as a more compact package, well suited to 16mm cinematography. Alongside the camera, Mitchell introduced a full complement of accessories, including a sidefinder, tripod, and friction head like the example shown here. When this unit arrived, the top plate where the camera mounts to the friction head was fractured right down the middle. A new top plate and pan handle were machined and installed to restore the friction head to working condition. We have paired this friction head, serial number 31, with a Mitchell 16 Pro camera package that will soon be available for sale on our website. Another piece of equipment brought back to life!
