Servicing a 16mm Acme Movement

While I am closed in this odd limbo time between holiday and new year, I wanted to share this final project that I finished in 2024. I have a client who is building himself a film scanner from various bits and pieces that I have sold him and that he has been making himself. A few weeks back he asked about a 16mm Acme movement that I had listed on our website. After some back and forth, he decided that this movement would be perfect for his scanner project. Before I ship anything, I must first make sure it is in top working condition, so I set about disassembling the movement, cleaning and lubricating it, and then putting it all back together. Anyone who has taken an Acme movement apart knows that it is full of little, fiddly bits that all need to be taken apart and reassembled in the proper order. As the 16mm movements are much less common than their 35mm counterparts, I thought it would be very interesting to share images of my disassembly, cleaning, lubricating, and reassembly process. With that, I wish you all a very happy new year. Talk to you in 2025!
