Recreating the Illusive ARRI 16 ST Power Cable

A few weeks back I showed two of the several Arriflex 16 ST cameras currently in stock that I have restored. The only problem with this is that I don’t have any of the stock ARRI power cables that are proprietary to this camera. I called all the usual suspects, and they all said the same thing: We used to have bins of those, but sadly, there are no more available. My philosophy, as you know, is to try not to modify the cameras, but to keep them as close to factory original as possible. For this reason, I didn’t want to go the route of drilling holes and mounting an XLR connector to the side of the camera. There are so many ARRI ST cameras out there in the world, and they are an extraordinarily good camera, so it occurred to me that a connector could be 3D printed so that power cables could once again be available for these fantastic cameras. I don’t have a 3D printer yet, but I could machine a prototype so that, in the near future, once I get a 3D printer, I can make power cables for the ARRI ST cameras. Here are some photos of the process so far. I made one connector for the ARRI ST that has all of the same features of the factory connector, but should be easily 3D printable. These new cables will have the ST connector on one end and a 4-pin XLR connector on the other. More to come.
